Denk- und Macherei
VOLUNTARY COMMITMENT & LECTURE - 2025

DENK- UND MACHEREI

The „Denk- und Macherei“ is committed to a regenerative building culture that is in harmony with natural cycles and promotes a more conscious approach to nature. As a platform for education, experimentation and inspiration, the association imparts knowledge about regenerative construction with a particular focus on bioregional building materials. The aim is to make this knowledge understandable, accessible and practical through seminars and public formats. The association’s work is based on four strategic pillars: the collection and processing of knowledge in its own database, the further development of this knowledge in educational and specialist contexts, communication through exhibitions and lectures and the encouragement of the development of infrastructures that enable and support sustainable construction.

Open Days

For a deep understanding of bioregional building materials, it is essential to engage with the specific landscape, people, animals and organisms, as well as the local knowledge, building culture and technology that characterize the region. All these elements form a complex, interwoven system.

With the start of a new season, an exchange takes place within the framework of various events. Whether in conversation, through lectures, observation, sensing, experiencing or in seminars – the focus is on transdisciplinary exchange and discussion.

The first event was the open day on April 11 and 12, 2024, with exciting lectures, workshops and walks on the topic of „Building with bioregional building materials“. This event was part of the anniversary program of the Northern Upper Palatinate Nature Park.

Lecture „Bioregional Construction“

Stefanie Huthöfer M.Sc. and Dipl.-Des. Melissa Acker explained basics and principles of bioregional construction, presented reference projects and outlined points of contact in the region – and thus opened up perspectives on how a network and a local value chain can be established in the Upper Palatinate.

Exhibition & Vernissage

On occasion of the open days, an exhibition was inaugurated showing the results of the 2024 seminars, which were held in cooperation with the HFT Stuttgart and the Bauhaus University Weimar (PdN, GTMA).

The works displayed above are part of the outcome of a workshop with students of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences in 2024 – presented with consent of the students.
